A Note from our Pastor on the Coronavirus (COVID-19)
To The Light members and friends,
First let me say this, Paul tells Timothy that, "God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, and of love and of sound mind" (2 Tim 1:7). It is not in the DNA of God’s children to have a spirit or nature of fear or anxiety about today or the future. We do not have fear, but we do have power, and we have the authority to take control and command of the situation. We have power to trample over serpents, scorpions (spiritual enemies) and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing by any means (virus) shall hurt us (Luke 10:19). Paul said we also have love. Love consists of patience, kindness and selflessness, not pushing and demanding our own opinion or desire (1 Corinthians 13:4-7). These are great qualities to have in challenging times, especially when everyone has an opinion. Thirdly, Paul says that we have a sound mind. The word Paul uses here for a “sound mind” is from the Greek word “sophronismos”, which means to correct and bring back to center or balance. In other words, as God’s children, we have the ability to stay centered and balanced. When our hearts and minds begin to wonder away from center or stability, we can self-correct. God’s wisdom through His word and and the Holy Spirit enables us to stay in control of our flesh and emotions, not getting out of balance with fear and anxiety in spite of what we see and hear. Stay centered in Him!!!!
As of this morning, Monday, March 16, I was not resolved as whether to have service at The Light this coming Sunday or not. I also realize that there are many varied opinions on what we should or should not do in the midst of this COVID-19 pandemic. Proverbs 11:14 tells us that "there is safety in a multitude of counselors." I have reached out for counsel from some trusted spiritual leaders and met with our staff to discuss options for The Light moving forward in this unprecedented season we find ourselves in. Ultimately, it is my responsibility to hear from God concerning The Light and give the vision for whatever season we are in.
This afternoon, Montgomery County Judge Mark Keough issued an updated occupancy declaration that asks all organizations, including churches, not to assemble with greater than 50 people. This is in accordance with the CDC recommendations. The Light has decided to comply with this request in an effort to help prevent and contain the COVID-19 virus and be mindful of our civic responsibility and be obedient to the authorities of this land (Romans 13:1-3).
So moving forward beginning this Sunday, March 22, The Light will have a video message posted on our website www.thelightcf.org/media that you will be able to view and stay informed, encouraged and connected. This will continue until we feel it is the right time to resume services at The Light campus. The goal will be to have every member view the message and have downloadable, follow along notes to review. We also want to have host homes so people can gather in small groups (about 10 or less) and have fellowship as well. This will be an opportunity to invite neighbors, co-workers, and others to join with you for a message of faith in this time we are in. My hope is that this is a very temporary adjustment, and we can get back to normalcy in the near future. We will do our best to keep everyone informed as we adapt and change. You will still have the ability to contact the church for information, prayer, and other needs. The church office will have someone present to answer phones and a limited staff Monday - Thursday. We do not want this to be a time to scatter, but a time to unite and grow stronger in the midst of a challenge.
Thank you all for understanding, and please plan on participating. If you would like to become a host home for the weekly video message, please contact The Light through our website or call the church at 936-856-9500.

Dear Church Members and Guests:
With the heightened awareness and public concerns regarding the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19) as well as the ongoing seasonal flu virus and common cold, we want to assure you that public health and safety concerns are our highest priority. At all our church facilities, we are very intentional about providing clean, sanitary, and safe environments for people to meet and worship God. We have enhanced our already-thorough cleaning procedures. This includes a comprehensive daily cleaning of all restrooms and various touch points (doorknobs, handles, water faucets, handrails, etc.). In addition, our facilities staff continually cleans throughout and between each service. The children’s classrooms and toys are disinfected after each service by the Kids Light staff and volunteers. We have implemented additional cleaning procedures before and after each event conducted at the church, including all daytime and nighttime events.
While we realize no public environment is 100% safe, we are taking every precaution and safety measure possible and are diligent in implementing additional procedures with our staff and custodial services in regard to proper cleaning standards and sanitation.
We encourage you to wash your hands frequently and to refrain from simple actions such as shaking hands. Use hand sanitizer frequently if you are in the public places.
Also, if you or your children are ill, please stay home and watch our services online at The Light (thelightcf.org/media). And let us know so that we can be in prayer for you and your family.
